Founded in Berlin in 2019, the quartet can already look back on an impressive series of jury and audience awards (including Premio Borciani, Bordeaux, Wigmore Hall) and was part of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists program from 2022 to 2024. In March 2024, the Leonkoro Quartet received the Young Talent Award of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, shortly after followed the announcement as Borletti-Buitoni Trust award winners. At the beginning of the 24/25 season, the four musicians were awarded the Ensemble Prize of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Leonkoro - in Esperanto: Lionheart - alludes to a children's book by Astrid Lindgren.
In September 2023, their debut CD was released by Mirare with the String Quartet by Maurice Ravel and the Quartet op. 41 by Robert Schumann.
This is the prizewinners' concert at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition on May 15, 2022, where the Leonkoro Quartet won 1st Prize, the Audience Prize and the Young Audience Prize. Robert Schumann's Quartet op. 41 No. 3, together with Maurice Ravel's String Quartet, is also part of the quartet's debut CD, which was released by Mirare on September 1, 2023 as part of the competition prize in Bordeaux.
